How Much Do You Trust Your Advisors?
Last week, after wrapping up a series of meetings, I departed from the Yuma Arizona Regional Airport in my trusty Cessna P210 with a clear sky and a full agenda ahead. But shortly after takeoff, a warning light forced me to turn back. Thankfully, the landing was uneventful—but what followed was a masterclass in trust, professionalism, and the kind of service that defines long-term partnerships.
With no A&P mechanic immediately available, I reached out to my local farming network. That network identified a qualified aircraft mechanic who then made a special after-hours trip to the airport. Together, we diagnosed the issue: a faulty starter/generator. A replacement was sourced and shipped overnight. The same mechanic returned the next evening, installed the part, and confirmed the aircraft was airworthy. Perhaps this is a testament to the work ethic and community service found in the ag world.
What stood out wasn’t just the technical resolution—it was the people. The FBO staff, friends who offered a place to stay, the mechanic who went above and beyond, and the supplier who expedited the part. Every single person overdelivered.
This experience reminded me of a fundamental truth: trust is built in the moments when things don’t go as planned. It’s in the late-night calls, the extra effort, the quiet professionalism. It’s in the advisors who show up—not just when it’s convenient, but when it counts.
As professionals, we often talk about value, service, and relationships. But these aren’t just buzzwords. They’re behaviors. They’re choices. And they’re the foundation of every enduring partnership.
To those who stepped up last week—thank you. You didn’t just fix a plane. You reinforced what it means to do business the right way.
